On September 6-7, 2018 tax experts from 7 countries and representatives from private sector industry leaders came together in the FTS of Russia HQ to discuss their views on the digital transformation of tax administrations. This marked the first meeting within the Community of Interest on Digital Transformation led by the FTS under the auspices of the OECD Forum on Tax Administration (FTA). The meeting was chaired by FTS Commissioner Mikhail Mishustin.

The goal of the meeting was to identify priorities of the Community’s future work. Attendees from Australia, Denmark, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore and the UK shared their vision of the tax administration of the future and pointed out technologies and concepts they find most relevant. Private sector experts from Accenture, EY, McKinsey & Co and Teradata also contributed their expertise to the discussion. Among potential early topics for the community, participants singled out digital identity, data handling, compliance by design and digital maturity.

The Community of Interest on Digital Transformation was created in September2017 by the FTA Bureau. The goal of the community is to examine world’s best practices in using digital technologies in tax administration and provide guidance to FTA members. The community builds upon successful work carried out by the FTS within the E-services and Digital Delivery Project in 2015-2017.

The FTS, together with other participating countries and the FTA Secretariat is currently finalizing the activity plan for the foreseeable future. It will be presented for approval at the FTA Plenary in Chile in March 2019.
